RV Daily: Blue Ridge Access and Fall Camping
October 6 RV news: Blue Ridge access, Firefly training, Imperial’s 2027 options, and fall camping deadlines at Grand Teton and Yellowstone.
The RV Dummies editorial team · Published · Updated
Fall travel is getting easier in one corner of the country and more complicated in another. The Blue Ridge Parkway has restored a useful stretch of driving and camping access, while western parks are entering the part of the season when a campground, its store and its nearby services may all close on different days.
Today's roundup also looks at upcoming technician training and the equipment details behind a new model-year announcement. These are the changes worth checking before you book a stop, arrange a repair or compare two trailers on a dealer's lot. Dates below were checked October 6, 2026; a listed operating season is not a promise of available sites or unchanged road conditions.
More Blue Ridge Parkway access returns for fall trips
An October 5 National Park Service update brings good news for a fall mountain itinerary: drivers can travel continuously between James River at milepost 63.7 and Little Switzerland near milepost 344. Julian Price Campground's loops B and D have also reopened following Hurricane Helene damage, with reservations offered through October 30. That makes a fresh campground search worthwhile if you had previously crossed this area off your route.
The remaining repairs still matter. Mileposts 344–355 are not included in that uninterrupted drive, and NPS targets their reopening by the end of 2026. Don't turn a regional reopening announcement into an assumption that you can drive the entire Parkway end to end today. Check the road-status map for the actual stretch between your entrance, campsite and exit.
For a tall rig, an open road is only the first question. The Parkway's tunnel guide distinguishes clearance at the roadway edge from the taller center. Your route has to work while you remain in your lane; the center of a tunnel is not extra clearance you can borrow from oncoming traffic. Use your measured travel height and choose another route when clearance is insufficient.
Our practical take: build the scenic drive around a campground you can actually reach and fit into. A short day trip from a suitable base can be more enjoyable than forcing the whole rig through every scenic mile. Review the approach before you commit to the reservation.

Firefly's remaining training dates offer a useful service-network lead
Firefly Integrations' final 2026 training schedule received new coverage from RV PRO on October 5. Its current official calendar lists Henderson, Nevada, on October 8; St. Louis on October 20; Madison, Wisconsin, on October 22; Tulsa on November 3; and Little Rock on November 5. These are service-technician sessions, not general owner workshops.
The six-hour classes address the multiplex controls that let several RV systems communicate through a shared network. Topics include RV-C and CAN bus technology, testing and fault diagnosis. Firefly says the classes count for six hours toward RVTI Level 3 certification, with attendance limited to 24 technicians. Completing one class is not the same as earning every requirement of a broader certification.
For owners, the useful question is simple: does the person working on your rig know its control system? When a screen behaves strangely, describe what you touched, what changed and whether the problem repeats. A photo of the message or a short sequence of steps can make a service conversation much clearer than 'the whole panel is broken.' Don't dismantle wiring just to make that report.
For mobile technicians and service departments, the official schedule is the place to check registration and remaining availability. For travelers, training news is a reason to ask a prospective shop about relevant experience, not proof that a nearby appointment is available. We would rather make that call before moving the rig than discover a mismatch after arriving.

Imperial's 2027 changes make the options sheet especially important
Imperial Outdoors' 2027 lineup is receiving fresh trade attention, but the manufacturer's detailed announcement is dated September 2. The distinction matters: this is a closer look at a model-year change, not a claim that the company announced it yesterday. The most useful news for shoppers is how the power equipment is packaged.
For Xplore X-145 and X-195 trailers, Imperial lists a Victron power system and Cruisemaster BCS ride-height and leveling equipment as standard for 2027. It explicitly says BCS is not ABS or automatic tire inflation. The powered tongue jack, rear-view camera and 50-amp DC-to-DC charger are options. On Sport S-145 and S-195 trailers, battery and solar packages move from standard equipment to staged options.
That changes how we would compare two quotes. Put the actual installed battery capacity, solar equipment, charging equipment and desired conveniences on the same sheet before comparing the totals. A headline about upgraded electronics does not tell you what is fitted to the particular trailer in front of you.
Think about a normal camping day rather than buying from the longest feature list. If you normally stay with hookups, your priorities may differ from a family planning several nights away from them. Ask the dealer to identify the installed equipment on the specific unit and explain its operation during the walkthrough. We have not tested these trailers, and the manufacturer's equipment claims do not establish how long your own loads will run.

Grand Teton's remaining campground dates are coming quickly
Grand Teton's published 2026 schedule puts several remaining camping deadlines within days. Gros Ventre Campground and Colter Bay RV Park list October 10 closing dates. Signal Mountain Campground, along with its showers and laundry, lists October 11. Headwaters Campground and RV Park's October 4 closing date has already passed. These are seasonal schedule checks, not newly announced emergency closures.
Be precise about the name when you book. Colter Bay Campground and Colter Bay RV Park are different facilities, and the campground's listed September 27 closure does not describe the RV park's season. Saving just 'Colter Bay' in a travel note can leave you checking the wrong place.
The park requires campground reservations and does not provide an overflow camping area. Its camping guidance also rules out turning a roadside pullout or ordinary parking area into your overnight fallback. An open scenic destination is not automatically somewhere you can spend the night in the RV.
For a trip later this week, confirm the final permitted night, the site's fit and the services you need before driving over. Then decide where the following night will be. We would also avoid squeezing the departure into the very last hour of a busy travel day: a little room in the plan makes a weather change or a slower pack-up far less stressful. The scenery can stay on the itinerary even if your overnight base needs to change.

Yellowstone: match your campsite to the services still operating
Yellowstone's operating calendar, updated October 5, lists Fishing Bridge RV Park and Madison Campground through October 17, Lewis Lake through October 11 and Slough Creek through October 12. NPS specifies that campgrounds close at 11 a.m. on the listed closing day. Don't read October 17 as permission to arrive that evening for another night.
The campground guide identifies Fishing Bridge as the park's only campground with water, sewer and electrical hookups, and restricts it to hard-sided vehicles. It also warns that dump stations may close in freezing temperatures. If your route depends on a dump stop, that warning belongs in the plan before your tanks become the deciding factor.
Services have their own calendar. At Fishing Bridge, the operating page lists the staffed gas-and-store service through October 11 while separately noting year-round, round-the-clock fuel availability. Repair and towing services there have already passed their listed seasonal closing dates. Those distinctions are a good reason to check the exact service you need rather than treating a fuel icon as a promise of a fully staffed stop.
Choose the route, overnight site and resupply plan together. Yellowstone does not permit overnight vehicle parking in ordinary pullouts or picnic areas as a substitute for a campground. Recheck road conditions before moving, because weather can change access independently of the camping calendar. A confirmed site is valuable, but a workable arrival and departure plan is what turns it into a relaxed stay.
