RV Daily: New Rigs and Fall Travel Checks

October 9 RV news: Alliance Aurum, Lagun tables, a New Jersey show, gasoline costs, Yosemite camping dates and Sequoia road work.

The RV Dummies editorial team · Published · Updated

A new luxury fifth wheel and a more flexible table system give RV shoppers fresh ideas this week. For those already traveling, the more immediate decisions are practical: what the drive will cost, which campground dates still work, and how much extra time to leave for mountain-road maintenance.

This October 9 roundup brings together six useful developments. Product specifications remain manufacturer claims, fuel figures are dated snapshots, and park schedules can change. The takeaway is to turn each announcement into a specific question for your own rig and trip before committing to a purchase or a long drive.

Alliance Aurum: start with the truck match

Alliance’s 2027 Aurum 38FB received fresh RV News coverage on October 8. The manufacturer’s model page still labels it “Coming Soon” and lists a starting MSRP of $243,100. Treat this as a model to investigate, with delivery timing to confirm, rather than evidence that a nearby dealer has one ready to take home.

Update October 10, 2026: Alliance’s live 2027 Aurum 38FB page now lists a starting MSRP of $269,048 and still says “Coming Soon.” This updates the $243,100 figure in our earlier snapshot. Confirm the exact build, delivered price and availability with the manufacturer or dealer.

Alliance lists a length of 41 feet 2 inches, a dry weight of 20,010 pounds and a gross vehicle weight rating of 24,000 pounds. The brand page describes a stacked-tube Fortis chassis with a full-length steel middeck, MORryde independent suspension and hydraulic disc brakes. Those are substantial specifications, and the truck match belongs near the beginning of the conversation.

The 38FB combines rear living space with a front primary suite and a double-sink bathroom. Listed equipment includes Café by GE appliances, residential dual-pane windows and three air conditioners with heat pumps. Our shopping advice is to separate the appealing floorplan from the exact delivered build: ask for its weight labels, option list, towing requirements and delivery estimate. A starting price and a dry-weight figure do not describe what your fully loaded travel setup will be.

Lagun gives the dinette more ways to work

Lagun’s new Pro leg and Tap mount target a familiar small-RV problem: the same few square feet have to handle meals, work and ordinary living. RV News highlighted the expansion on October 8; the manufacturer’s announcement explains how the pieces fit together.

The Pro leg adds a mounting ridge, and the Tap mount attaches an arm along that ridge. Lagun says this allows two tabletops to swivel independently from one leg. Tap also works with its wall mount, and its position can be changed without tools. The broader launch includes a 550-by-330-millimeter Nomad tabletop, an 825-by-495-millimeter Crew tabletop, and a small storage compartment that replaces a mounting-plate end cap.

North American availability deserves a separate check. RV News says the launch products are expected through Lagun USA over the next few months; the coverage date is not a promise of immediate shipment. Before ordering parts, map the full movement of both surfaces inside your RV. Check knee space, seating access and the path past the table, then confirm mounting requirements and compatibility with your existing hardware. Extra flexibility only helps if the arrangement still leaves a comfortable way to move through camp.

A New Jersey show runs through Sunday

The Camping World Fall RV Show is underway at ShoreTown Ballpark in New Jersey, according to the Jersey Shore BlueClaws’ September 23 announcement. The event runs October 8–11. Posted hours for Friday and Saturday are 10 a.m.–7 p.m.; Sunday’s hours are 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Admission is listed at $5, with proceeds benefiting Ocean County Vocational Technical School.

The venue’s lineup includes new and used travel trailers, fifth wheels, toy haulers, camper vans, and Class C and Class A gas motorhomes. That makes it a useful chance to compare different layouts in one visit, especially if your shopping list still spans several RV types.

Bring a short comparison sheet rather than relying on how the last unit felt. Write down the exact model and year, usable storage, access with the slides in, and the weight information shown on that unit. For a used RV, ask for service records and leave room for an independent inspection. If a sales quote looks attractive, request the complete written total and identify optional products separately. The show announcement establishes the event details; it does not verify any particular unit’s condition, inventory or deal.

A small fuel-price drop still needs context

AAA’s October 8 report put the national average for regular gasoline at about $4.36 per gallon, down roughly five cents over the preceding week. That is the dated report figure, not a guaranteed October 9 price at your next exit. AAA’s state comparisons also show why a nationwide average is only a starting point for a real trip budget.

For example, a 300-mile drive at an assumed 10 miles per gallon takes 30 gallons. At $4.36, that works out to $130.80. A five-cent reduction saves $1.50 on those gallons. The arithmetic is useful because it keeps a small price change in proportion to the much bigger choices about distance and how often you move.

Use your own recent fuel economy and the fuel your vehicle actually requires. Add driving beyond the campground-to-campground leg, and check prices along the route rather than substituting a national gasoline figure for diesel. A detour to a cheaper station can also add miles and an awkward entrance for the full rig. The sensible target is a workable fuel stop and an honest trip estimate, not chasing every nickel.

Worked fuel example: 300 miles at an assumed 10 mpg uses 30 gallons; at $4.36 per gallon the cost is $130.80, and a five-cent price drop saves $1.50.

Yosemite’s camping calendar is tightening

Yosemite’s conditions page, updated October 8 and checked for this edition, lists Porcupine Flat closing October 11, followed by Crane Flat and Tamarack Flat on October 12. It also lists no overnight parking along Tioga Road and Glacier Point Road, or their parking lots, beginning October 15. Glacier Point Road is currently closed for smoke and firefighting operations, with no estimated reopening date.

Update October 10, 2026: NPS now schedules Glacier Point Road to reopen Saturday, October 10, at 7 a.m. local time. Watch for firefighters and recheck current conditions before driving. This updates the earlier no-estimate snapshot; conditions may change.

Keep three questions separate: can you drive the road, does your campground operate on your dates, and where may your vehicle stay overnight? One answer does not settle the others. Yosemite says sleeping in a vehicle is allowed only in a campsite where you are registered to stay; an open roadside space is not an overflow campsite.

For a trip straddling those dates, review every night rather than just your arrival day. Confirm your reserved site fits your vehicle, check the departure route, and have an alternative campground before committing to the drive. The immediate news is the shrinking fall calendar, not a promise that every listed road or campsite will remain available.

Yosemite timeline shows Porcupine Flat closing October 11, Crane Flat and Tamarack Flat October 12, and corridor overnight-parking restrictions beginning October 15.

Sequoia tree work adds weekday delays

Sequoia and Kings Canyon’s road page, updated October 8, lists several hazard-tree projects along Generals Highway. Between the Crystal Cave Road junction and Accessible General Sherman Tree Parking, weekday delays of up to 30 minutes total are scheduled from 8 a.m.–5 p.m., October 5 through approximately October 16. That listing specifically excludes Monday, October 12.

Update October 10, 2026: The current NPS listing still gives October 5 through approximately October 16, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. on weekdays, with no delays Monday, October 12, for this work zone. It no longer specifies a maximum delay duration, so do not rely on the earlier 30-minute figure when planning your drive.

Other work zones farther north have their own schedules. The Montecito Lodge area to the Highway 180 junction has weekday delays listed through approximately October 20, excluding federal holidays. Check the segments you will actually use rather than treating one project’s end date as an all-clear for the entire highway.

Route suitability matters as much as the clock. NPS does not recommend the Hospital Rock-to-Wolverton Road section for vehicles longer than 22 feet because of its hairpin turns. Panoramic Point Road does not permit RVs or trailers. Leave breathing room in the day and choose the approach that suits your full rig; a delay-free shortcut is no bargain if the road is wrong for it. Check current conditions again before departure, particularly when mountain weather changes.
