RV Daily: Glacier, Acadia and a New Coach
October 12 RV news: Glacier road weather, Yosemite access, Acadia campground closings, Coachmen’s Origin and a Canadian technician deadline.
The RV Dummies editorial team · Published
Check the campground calendar before extending a fall trip. Acadia reaches two scheduled campground closings today, while western park travel brings a different mix of winter-weather restrictions and restored access. Those changes can affect where you sleep, which vehicle you take sightseeing and whether a planned drive still makes sense.
Our October 12 roundup also looks at Coachmen’s recently introduced Origin motorhome and a registration deadline for Canadian RV technicians. The dates matter: a new walkthrough is not a new product launch, and an announced road closure is not a reliable live navigation report. Here is what has changed and what to check next.
Glacier’s alpine road needs a fresh status check
Do not build a Glacier itinerary around driving straight across Going-to-the-Sun Road without checking the park’s live road information. In its October 9 announcement, Glacier said the alpine section would close at 7 p.m. that evening from Avalanche to Jackson Glacier Overlook ahead of rain, possible snow and strong winds. The park said the closure boundary could change and reopening would depend on improving conditions. That notice did not promise a Monday reopening.
For an RV trip, separate the sightseeing drive from the route you use to move camp. Even when the alpine road is open, vehicles and combinations longer than 21 feet, including bumpers, or wider than 8 feet, including mirrors, are prohibited between Avalanche Creek and Rising Sun. The park also warns that vehicles taller than 10 feet can encounter rock-overhang difficulties westbound from Logan Pass toward the Loop. A truck that fits by itself does not make its attached trailer eligible.
Before departure, check both the park’s road map and Montana’s road information for your approach. Save a route that works with your full rig and the current weather, rather than following a navigation app through a restricted segment. Glacier lists no fueling stations inside its boundaries, so make the fuel stop part of the approach plan. The useful question is whether your actual route is open and suitable today, not whether the park is generally open.

Glacier Point Road reopens, with important limits
Yosemite’s Glacier Point Road reopened at 7 a.m. on October 10, according to that morning’s Dome Fire update. This is a genuine change from the closure reported earlier this month. It restores a driving option, but it does not reopen the entire surrounding fire area. The same update kept trails within the active fire footprint closed, including south- and eastbound trails accessed from Glacier Point Road, and asked drivers to watch for firefighters working along the road.
Choose the vehicle before choosing the viewpoint. Beyond the Sentinel Dome/Taft Point trailhead, Yosemite limits single vehicles to 30 feet and prohibits trailers. A reopened road does not override that restriction. If you are staying in a nearby campground with a towable, plan the excursion with a permitted vehicle rather than arriving at the restricted section with the trailer still attached.
There is another deadline this week: Yosemite’s conditions page lists the October 15 start of overnight-parking restrictions along Tioga Road and Glacier Point Road and their parking lots. That is especially relevant if a day outing could become an overnight hike. Road access, trail permission and overnight parking are separate decisions. Recheck the current closure map and road conditions before leaving camp, allow for active crews, and keep another day-trip option available if smoke or changing weather makes the original plan less appealing.

Acadia’s campground options narrow today
Acadia’s 2026 operating calendar schedules Seawall and Schoodic Woods campgrounds to close October 12 at 10 a.m. local time. Blackwoods is scheduled to close one week later, October 19 at 10 a.m. Those are campground season endings, not park-wide closing dates. A plan to enjoy another afternoon in the park still needs a separate, confirmed place to spend the night.
If you are moving from one campground to another, secure the next site before breaking camp. Acadia requires reservations through Recreation.gov; the campground office does not make them in person. Same-day reservations are possible when a site is available, but the later Blackwoods closing date is not evidence that a suitable site is vacant. Check the individual site’s equipment limits and layout against your actual RV, and make sure the reservation covers the night you intend to stay.
Do not treat a park parking area as the backup campground. Acadia’s camping guidance prohibits overnight parking and out-of-bounds camping. For a longer fall visit, look for an operating campground outside the park and verify its late-season services directly. The park calendar also has different dates for visitor facilities and roads, so losing a campsite does not automatically mean losing the whole trip. It means the overnight portion needs a new plan before you arrive at a closed gate.

Coachmen’s Origin puts the rear space to work
Coachmen’s Origin is attracting fresh attention through an October 9 RV Travel walkthrough, following the manufacturer’s September 29 introduction. The company describes a motorhome combining Class A-style design with an E-Series chassis. Its use of the word “hybrid” refers to that design approach; the announcement is not introducing hybrid-electric propulsion.
The interesting part for shoppers is at the back. Coachmen describes a split rear opening whose lower section becomes a deck, with an integrated railing, while the rear beds fold up to make room for larger gear. Those features could change how a compact coach works at camp. They also deserve a hands-on demonstration: ask how the opening is secured for travel, what has to move when converting the beds and how the deck is used within the manufacturer’s limits.
Treat early numbers as preliminary. Coachmen’s release gives a $150,000 target retail price and says full specifications and availability will follow; it also describes dimensions and chassis options in ways that should be confirmed for the actual production coach. Before comparing it with a familiar Class C or camper van, get the final specification sheet and the particular unit’s cargo-carrying labels. Walk through travel seating, bathroom access when stowed, bedding storage and loading your own gear. An appealing floorplan becomes a useful shortlist candidate when those everyday details work for your group.

Friday is the Truro technician-clinic deadline
RV service teams considering the Trouble Shooter Clinic in Truro, Nova Scotia, have a decision to make this week. The official RV Careers listing sets October 16 as both the registration deadline and the end of the hotel room block. The clinic itself runs November 17–20 at the Inn on Prince Hotel & Conference Centre. RV News highlighted the approaching deadline on October 9.
This is technical training for the service industry, rather than a general owner-maintenance class. The official listing includes course materials, breaks and lunch, and a completion certificate with continuing-education credits. Participants are asked to bring a laptop or tablet to view the materials, and hotel reservations must be made separately. A shop sending someone should confirm the course schedule, travel arrangements and service-bay coverage before the registration window closes.
For owners, the useful connection is to the equipment actually installed in your rig. When arranging service, ask whether the shop works on that system and can obtain its diagnostic information and parts. A training announcement does not guarantee a shorter repair queue or an immediate fix.
