RV Daily: A Recall, New Rigs and Canyon Water
October 13 RV news: a Surveyor recall, Sage truck campers, Venture’s 353VIK, Grand Canyon water updates and The Dyrt’s hiking picks.

Check the details that can change your next trip before getting drawn into the bigger headline. A newly reported Surveyor recall concerns a small group of trailers, but affected owners need the actual remedy. A new truck-camper company is approaching production, while a spacious fifth-wheel walkthrough gives shoppers another floorplan to consider. At Grand Canyon, recovery work is progressing without restoring normal campground services.
This October 13 roundup also looks at a fresh hiking-campground list and the questions an RVer should ask before booking from it. We’ve kept announcement dates, future plans and current operating conditions separate so you can use the news without mistaking a promise for something already available.
Surveyor recall: verify the exterior-outlet wiring campaign
Owners of a 2027 Forest River Surveyor should check campaign 26V647 with Forest River or their dealer. The manufacturer’s October 5 report identifies five trailers built September 18, 2026 whose exterior receptacle may not be wired into the ground-fault circuit interrupter, or GFCI, circuit. The reported hazard is electrical shock or injury. Authorized dealers will rewire the receptacle without charging for parts or labor.
NHTSA acknowledged the recall October 7, and RVBusiness included it in its October 12 recall roundup. Those are different stages of the same campaign, not evidence that the defect first appeared yesterday. Forest River’s own campaign number is 37-2103, and the report lists 574-642-3119 for customer assistance. Have your VIN ready and ask whether your particular trailer is included, when the remedy can be completed and what instructions apply until then.
An outlet powering an appliance is not evidence that its protective wiring is correct. Leave the inspection and correction to the authorized service process rather than trying to establish safety through ordinary use or opening the wiring yourself. The useful result of the call is a VIN-specific answer and a clear service plan.
Also remember what a recall search can miss. NHTSA says recently announced campaigns may not yet include every VIN, and some specialty manufacturers’ recalls do not appear in its VIN lookup. If your rig appears to match the manufacturer’s notice, contact the manufacturer even if a general search looks clear. Keep the campaign number and completed repair paperwork with your maintenance records. This item is one verified campaign, not a complete list of every RV recall.

Sage RV moves its truck camper toward dealer deliveries
Sage RV is a new name to watch if you want a camper for the pickup you already own. RVBusiness reported October 12 that former Newmar president Matt Miller has launched the company in Bremen, Indiana, after showing prototypes to dealers during September’s Elkhart Open House. The report identifies the camper line as Wapiti and describes a limited run of fewer than ten saleable pre-production units planned through year-end.
Sage’s own website describes a carbon-fiber shell and a design aimed at half-ton pickups. Its timeline places initial shipments to selected dealers in October through December 2026, with full production planned for January 2027. Those are the company’s targets. They do not establish that a dealer near you has stock, or that a particular delivery date is guaranteed.
The interesting part is the attempt to make a compact camper work with a vehicle an owner already has. The unanswered purchase question is whether the finished, equipped camper works with your actual truck. We did not find a published camper weight or price in the sources reviewed. Ask for the configuration-specific weight, dimensions, installation requirements and written warranty before making a comparison with other campers.
Start with your truck’s camper-loading information, not its towing advertisement. Ford’s current guide, for example, explains that camper eligibility and center-of-gravity information depend on the individual pickup and its options; some trucks are not recommended for camper use. The loaded vehicle must remain within its ratings. Have the dealer account for the camper’s options, water and gear alongside passengers and the rest of the truck’s load, then verify clearances and the approved installation. A half-ton marketing description cannot settle those questions by itself.

Venture’s 353VIK walkthrough puts a larger kitchen in view
RVBusiness featured Venture’s 2027 SportTrek Touring 353VIK walkthrough on October 12. This is a fresh look at the model, not a verified first-ever launch date. The presentation centers on its island kitchen and opposing living-area slides. Venture’s current Touring-series page lists a 17-cubic-foot refrigerator and a four-burner cooktop with an oven offering an air-fryer function.
The model-specific numbers deserve equal attention. Venture lists the STTF353VIK at 37 feet long, with an unloaded vehicle weight of 11,780 pounds, a dry hitch weight of 2,310 pounds and a gross vehicle weight rating of 14,995 pounds. Fresh-water capacity is listed at 76 gallons. The manufacturer cautions that its unloaded figures reflect rolling averages and vary with optional equipment, so they are not a substitute for the delivered trailer’s labels or a loaded weighing.
For a walkthrough, bring the questions that a wide-angle kitchen view cannot answer. Ask the dealer to demonstrate refrigerator, bathroom and cabinet access with the slides retracted. Try the actual standing space around the island with more than one person moving through the room. Check where cookware and groceries will go, and whether the appliances you intend to use need shore power, propane or an inverter-supported circuit on that exact unit.
If the layout suits you, complete the truck-and-trailer match before treating the floorplan as a buying decision. The dry hitch figure is not your loaded pin weight. Ask for a check that includes the fifth-wheel hitch, occupants, truck cargo and your realistic travel load. A kitchen you enjoy matters most when the full rig also fits the way you travel.

Grand Canyon shifts water support while camping limits remain
Grand Canyon’s recovery update now describes a change in how the South Rim community receives water. The NPS page, updated October 12, says the park began hauling more than 200,000 gallons a day directly into its water system on October 4. It also scheduled removal of temporary residential water tanks on October 10 and temporary laundry and shower units over October 10–11. These were community recovery services, not a promise of normal visitor amenities.
For RV travelers, the current operating restrictions remain the important distinction. NPS’s operations page still lists Trailer Village as closed until further notice under Stage 4 water restrictions. Mather and Desert View remain dry-camping operations, and Camper Services showers and laundry are closed. Desert View’s published season runs through October 18. Outdoor wood fires remain prohibited at those affected campgrounds.
The recovery page continues to describe November 16 as a possible start for pumping from the Bright Angel Creek intake to the new treatment plant, with distribution to residents potentially beginning by Thanksgiving. NPS explicitly treats those as estimates. Neither date is a confirmed reopening of RV hookups, showers or a booked campsite.
If you are heading there this week, check your exact reservation with the operator and plan around the services available now. Decide where you will obtain potable water, how long your tanks can support the stay and where you can legally empty them afterward. Confirm any alternative overnight stop before giving up an existing booking. Water hauling is meaningful progress for the community; it should not be read as an all-clear for a fully serviced RV stay.

The Dyrt’s hiking picks need an RV-specific second look
The Dyrt published its 2026 hiking-campground selections on October 8, with Fall Creek Falls State Park Campground in Tennessee ranked first and Hickory Ridge at Virginia’s Grayson Highlands second. The list is presented by Obōz Footwear, and The Dyrt says the choices draw on reviews and ratings from its camping community. It is a useful source of trip ideas, with the sponsor and selection method worth keeping in view.
One detail matters immediately to RVers: the third-ranked campground, Jenny Lake in Grand Teton, is tent-only. The park’s own camping information confirms that restriction. A good place to camp near hiking is not automatically a place to park your RV overnight. Grand Teton also requires advance campground reservations and does not permit ordinary overnight camping in pullouts or parking areas.
Use a list like this to choose a destination, then build a workable stay from the operator’s current information. Check the site’s vehicle limits, the season and services for your dates, and whether the hike starts at camp or requires another drive. Look at the return climb as well as the distance to a waterfall or overlook. If your main goal is a relaxed walking trip, an easy route you can reach from a suitable campsite may serve you better than the highest-ranked location.
The next step is a short, practical comparison: where the full rig can stay, how you will reach the trail and what backup walk you can take if conditions change. Treat the award as inspiration, then let those answers choose the reservation.
