RV Daily: Yellowstone and More Overnight Stops

October 22 RV news: Yellowstone’s November road closures, Love’s expansion plans, Winnebago results and the next Patrick-Lippert merger votes.

The RV Dummies editorial team · Published

Yellowstone has set the end of its regular driving season, and that matters even if your campground plans are already settled. Today’s roundup also follows Love’s overnight-stop expansion, a mixed set of results from Winnebago Industries and a new milestone in the proposed Patrick-Lippert combination.

These updates were announced or reported October 21, with older operating information identified where it helps explain the practical details. Start with the destination and dates that affect your next trip, then use the industry stories as context rather than a prediction about the price or reliability of a particular RV.

Yellowstone: October 31 is the last planned driving day

Yellowstone’s October 21 announcement says most park roads, along with the West, South and East entrances, will close to regular vehicles November 1. Saturday, October 31 is therefore the final planned day to drive most of the park this year. The announcement also says Dunraven Pass, between Tower Fall and Canyon Junction, can remain open through October 31 if weather allows. That is more specific than treating an older projected October closing date as the final word.

The winter exception is the road connecting the North Entrance at Gardiner with the Northeast Entrance at Cooke City/Silver Gate. It passes Mammoth Hot Springs, Tower Junction and Lamar Valley. Weather can still interrupt that route, so build some flexibility into the day rather than treating a year-round designation as a guarantee.

For RVers, the bigger trap is confusing an open road with an open overnight stop. The park’s October 19 operating table lists Fishing Bridge RV Park and Madison Campground as closed after their October 17 season endings. Mammoth remains the year-round campground. The camping page lists its winter limit as 30 feet for RV plus vehicle and its winter sites as first-come, first-served. Check your full rig against that limit before deciding it is your backup plan.

Fishing Bridge is Yellowstone’s only campground with water, sewer and electric hookups. Its closure changes the kind of stay you can plan inside the park, even while sightseeing roads remain accessible. Yellowstone also prohibits overnight vehicle parking in pullouts, picnic areas and parking lots. An empty scenic turnout is not an alternative campsite if your first choice is unavailable.

Check the approach as well as the park road. Yellowstone’s road page marks Beartooth Highway closed for the season and explains the winter gap between Cooke City and the Pilot Creek area. Do not assume reaching the Northeast Entrance means you can continue east on your usual summer route. Review the current state road reports and the park’s recorded conditions at 307-344-2117 before setting out. A workable late-fall plan includes an accessible overnight location outside the park if conditions or campsite fit rule out your original choice.

Love’s plans more places to stop overnight

Love’s is still expanding the RV side of its travel-stop business. In an October 21 Convenience Store News interview summarized by RVBusiness, hospitality and RV operations executive Jim Wheeler said the company expects to reach 150 RV stops by the end of 2026. He also described an ambition to exceed 200, without a completion date in the accessible report. Those are expansion plans, not confirmation that every planned location is open today.

The company’s February 5 plan provides useful background: it called for 23 new RV Stops and 150 additional hookups during 2026. A stop and a hookup are different counts, since a single location can contain several sites. The broader $700 million Road Ahead Plan includes new and remodeled travel stops across the business; it should not be described as money devoted entirely to RV campgrounds.

More transit-night options could make it easier to split a long drive into comfortable days. Still, pick the actual site before making it the anchor of your itinerary. Love’s official locator separates RV Stop locations from Travel Stop locations and lists RV-friendly parking, RV hookups and RV dump service as distinct amenities. Finding one of those labels does not establish that all three are offered at the same place.

Start with the location listing, then check the site dimensions, available connections and arrival instructions for your dates. Compare the complete stay price and cancellation terms rather than a headline nightly rate alone. For example, a stop that works well for a short overnight may be less useful if you need a specific hookup or room to remain hitched. We have not checked live availability or quoted a particular stay here.

Winnebago’s year and final quarter tell different stories

Winnebago Industries reported fiscal 2026 revenue of about $2.704 billion, down 3.4%, in its October 21 release. Annual net income rose to $34.5 million from $25.7 million. Its final quarter was softer: revenue fell 17% to $645.1 million, while net income declined to $9.7 million from $13.7 million. Keeping the periods separate makes those apparently conflicting headlines easier to understand.

The company’s annual RV segments also moved differently. Towable revenue fell 13.9%, while motorhome revenue rose 8.4%. These are Winnebago Industries results, covering a portfolio that includes multiple RV brands and marine products, rather than a scorecard for one Winnebago model. Management’s fiscal 2027 revenue forecast of $2.65 billion to $2.80 billion is an outlook, not sales already achieved.

For someone shopping now, the useful takeaway is to compare the individual RV and offer. A decline in manufacturer revenue does not tell you what discount a dealer will accept, whether a particular floorplan is available or how quickly a repair will be handled. Put the exact model year, options, condition and written total alongside competing offers. If two rigs have very different equipment, a larger advertised discount may not make them comparable.

Owners can read this as business context without turning it into a verdict on the RV sitting in their driveway. Your maintenance records, the condition of the rig and the support available for its particular equipment remain more useful for the next ownership decision than a company-wide quarterly headline.

Patrick and Lippert move toward November votes

The proposed combination of Patrick Industries and LCI Industries, the parent of Lippert, has another date on the calendar. RV News reported October 21 that both companies plan virtual shareholder meetings November 18, with LCI’s meeting at 9 a.m. Eastern and Patrick’s at 10 a.m. The proposed combined corporate name is Patrick LCI, Inc., subject to the required approval and the deal closing.

Patrick’s October 19 filing confirms that definitive joint proxy materials were first mailed that day. It continues to describe an expected closing in the first half of 2027, subject to shareholder votes, regulatory approvals and other closing conditions. This is a procedural update to an existing proposal, not an announcement that the businesses have already combined.

For owners, the immediate practical point is to avoid guessing about parts or warranties from a proposed corporate name. The newly reported meeting schedule does not establish a change to your service contact, warranty coverage or replacement-part compatibility. Keep using the instructions and support contacts for your actual component, and retain its model and serial information with your service records. If a supplier later announces an owner-facing change, that specific notice will be the information to act on.
