RV Daily: Solitude, Suppliers and Shipments
A new Solitude lineup, competing proposals around Lippert and weaker September shipments: what is confirmed and what RV owners should check next.
The RV Dummies editorial team · Published
Today's RV news brings a redesigned fifth wheel, a fresh turn in a major supplier transaction and another decline in wholesale shipments. These stories matter at different points in ownership: choosing a floorplan, keeping service information organized and deciding what a market headline actually tells you about the RV in front of you.
The new Solitude and supplier developments received October 28 coverage. The shipment figures describe September activity, with trade reporting appearing earlier this week. We checked the original company statements and RVIA's report, including a disagreement between the association's headline and its tables. Here are the useful details and the questions that remain open.
The 2027 Solitude puts the floorplan first
Grand Design is presenting the 2027 Solitude as a substantial redesign of its flagship fifth-wheel lineup. RV PRO reported the announcement October 28, and the manufacturer's current introduction page shows new interiors, floorplans and equipment descriptions. The company says it reconsidered how owners use their RVs for longer stays and remote work. That is the builder's design brief, not a finding from an RV Dummies road test.
Two layouts illustrate the direction. Grand Design lists a rear kitchen for the 320RK, along with a 72-by-80-inch king bed, a 19-cubic-foot residential refrigerator, dual pull-out trash cans and dishwasher preparation. Preparation is an important word: it does not mean a dishwasher is included. For the 394RO, the company highlights a rear office with an adjustable electric desk, a residential bathtub, a patio outdoor kitchen and rear storage with a sliding tray.
The manufacturer also lists the Omega Fifth Wheel Frame, composite roof, MORryde Independent Suspension and disc brakes. RV PRO describes those systems as continuing features. We would not treat every item on the introduction page as newly invented for 2027, or turn the company's durability language into an independent reliability verdict. The design changes and the construction claims deserve separate consideration.
If the rear-office idea interests you, picture a normal working morning before getting distracted by the lighting and finishes. Where will the other person eat breakfast while a call is underway? Can a chair stay at the desk without blocking the route through the coach? For the rear kitchen, walk through making coffee, opening the refrigerator and putting groceries away. Ask to see the travel configuration as well as the fully opened display setup.
Then compare the exact unit's equipment list, weight labels and written quote. Ask which pictured features are standard, which are options and which belong to a different floorplan. Grand Design says specifications can change and that website images may show optional equipment or props. RV PRO reports dealer-network availability, but that does not establish stock at your nearby dealership. Confirm the actual floorplan and configuration rather than assuming every 2027 Solitude matches the launch presentation.

Lippert's parent has a proposal, not a completed sale
LCI Industries, the parent of Lippert, confirmed an unsolicited, nonbinding proposal from Monomoy Capital Partners to acquire the company for $101 per share in cash. Its statement is the key distinction here: receiving a proposal is not announcing a completed acquisition. The company said its board would evaluate the approach with its advisers while continuing to recommend its existing transaction with Patrick Industries.
Patrick separately reaffirmed the all-stock merger agreement on October 28. The agreement with LCI was announced June 30, so the new development is the competing approach, not the first announcement that the two suppliers plan to combine. Patrick said LCI's board had not changed its recommendation in favor of that merger. Neither of these October 28 statements establishes that either proposed transaction has closed.
This matters to RVers because both businesses supply components used in recreation vehicles. It does not give us a verified date for a change to an owner's parts order, warranty claim or service contact. The releases do not announce that all product brands will be renamed, that existing warranties will disappear or that a repair waiting at a shop will automatically move faster. Those would require specific evidence beyond the transaction headlines.
For an owner with work underway, keep the information that identifies the actual equipment together: the component brand, model and serial number, the RV's VIN, the repair diagnosis and the existing case or order number. Ask the shop to identify the supplier and part number on its estimate. A holding-company name in the news is much less useful at the service counter than knowing exactly which controller, axle or window is being discussed.
The next meaningful update will be an official change to the transaction's status or a specific announcement about products or owner support. Until then, keep using the published support process for your equipment and retain the written terms attached to your own purchase or repair. We have not verified a change to those terms from today's releases, and there is no basis here for a prediction about parts prices or availability.

September shipments fell, with a total that needs a flag
RVIA's September 2026 manufacturer survey shows a weaker wholesale month than September 2025. The association reports a 9.2% decline overall, a 9.7% decline for towable RVs and a 5.5% decline for motorhomes. RV PRO covered the release October 26. These figures track shipments from manufacturers, so keep the September measurement period separate from this week's reporting date.
There is an unresolved source discrepancy. RVIA's web headline and summary say 23,230 total September shipments, while its detailed online table and linked PDF show 23,320. The detailed rows list 20,667 towables and 2,653 motorhomes, which add to the latter figure. We are keeping both published totals visible rather than silently correcting the association's headline. We have not verified an official explanation for the difference.
The category results are more varied than one overall percentage suggests. The detailed report lists 766 Type B van campers, up 23.3% from September 2025. Fifth-wheel shipments were 4,047, down 20.8%, while Type A motorhomes totaled 365, down 31.5%. Those comparisons describe the reported categories for one month. They do not establish how quickly a particular new or used RV will sell in your town.
For a shopper, this is useful market context, but it is not a price tag. A wholesale decline does not measure the condition of a specific rig, your dealer's inventory or the discounts available on the floorplan you want. Compare actual written quotes for comparable equipment and model years. Make sure the comparison includes the items you will have to pay for, rather than treating two headline prices as the complete purchase cost.
Existing owners should be equally careful about jumping from shipment totals to a resale estimate. A national production report does not inspect your RV or account for its maintenance history, location and equipment. If you are considering a change, keep the market story beside the practical ownership questions: whether the replacement fits your use, whether the exact configuration works with your tow vehicle and whether the total costs fit your plan.
The worthwhile next check is a consistent official report or correction, followed by later months that show whether the pattern continues. One strong category does not erase the declines elsewhere, and one weak month does not tell every family's story. For now, the defensible conclusion is that September wholesale shipments were lower year over year, with a published total that still needs clarification.
